Myobrace Expanders Stops Mouth Breathing and Corrects Teeth Crowding
Myobrace works by slowing growing the jaw and mouth spaces to be taller and larger. The dental oral appliance puts light pressure and helps the jaws posture in the correct place. Tongue exercises are also done at the direction of our myofunctional therapist. The treatment process takes 2 to 3 years and results in mouth breathing and sleep correction. More space in the jaws means space for teeth to straighten. Myobrace can be an alternative to orthodontics.
What is the Myobrace?
The Myobrace system is a series of lightweight, removable oral appliances that are worn to correct oral habits and support healthy jaw alignment. Poor oral posture and jaw position can give rise to OSA. Tissues block the airway, which interferes with your child’s ability to breathe uninterrupted through the night. OSA patients may wake up dozens of times each hour when breathing ceases. This does not support restful, sound sleep and breathing problems are incredibly scary.
These custom oral appliances slip into the mouth. They help your child breathe through his or her nose (rather than mouth) and correct the tongue’s resting position. So, it rests on the roof of the mouth.
The appliances are combined with specialized exercises as part of the Myobrace® Activities program. Each day, the child performs a series of breathing, tongue, swallowing, lip, and cheek exercises to correct unhealthy habits. This is called myofunctional therapy. These activities are performed while wearing the appliance. With good compliance, treatment can be completed in two to three years for lasting results that support lifelong healthy breathing and function. Myobrace is a Gentle Alternative to Braces
Myobraces stimulates the jaws to grow larger and the teeth naturally have move room to straighten. Creating space in a growing child can align teeth and can be an alternative to orthodontics with conventional braces. Sometime orthodontics will still be necessary if the crooking is more severe.
Myobrace® Appliance Works for Adults Too
This three-stage system is appropriate for patients with permanent, adult teeth. It is highly effective at treating breathing conditions and disordered muscular function. Each appliance in the series is designed uniquely to correspond with a different “stage” in treatment:
- The A1 appliance is made from a soft and flexible material. So, it is comfortable, and the rate of compliance is high. When worn correctly, the A1 establishes uninterrupted nasal breathing. Once a healthy pattern has been established, patients move on to the A2.
- The A2 appliance is firmer than the A1. It is designed to expand the arch and support correct tongue and lip postures and swallowing patterns.
- The firmest appliance, the A3, is designed to retain the expanded arch form, tissue positioning, and related behaviors.
